Superb quality slim profile quartz watch
I looked at countless alternatives before buying one of these superb watches in 2012. I chose it because of the beautifully clear and legible dial with perfectly proportioned hands, high quality screw-down brushed stainless steel case (made by Ickler), indestructable sapphire crystal lens, and excellent luminosity in the dark. The other important factor for me was the unusually slim profile at 7mm. Having very small wrists, mechanical watches wouldn't suit me - although the Archimede Pilot 36/39 is very tempting at just 10mm profile. Why other manufacturers insist on making quartz watches so 'fat' is a mystery to me.
My A&V Flieger served me very well for 14 years, and doubtless would have continued to do so for much longer - but unfortunately I lost it in June 2026. After 14 years of constant use (and many changes of batteries, plus one or two new straps) the watch was still in fabulous condition, with just a few minor scuffs to the case - but the lens was still utterly perfect, despite often sharing space with keys and other sharp metal objects in my pocket.
Needless to say, I had no hesitation in replacing it with the same model - thankfully still available. You could buy a quartz watch for a lot less money - but this is a high quality item with true Pforzheim heritage that you will enjoy owning for years if not decades. Recommended.
